On Friday after our Sunrise Tour we had breakfast then set off to Swaziland to visit my cousins Marion and Douglas
It took an hour to drive from Crocodile Bridge to the border, then another 4 hours from there.
Driving here was interesting as it is very rural Africa – the cattle and goats all graze and roam freely at the side of the road. We were the only white people driving around and there were so many people walking on the roads, especially schoolchildren who waved to us. The last 50k of the journey was just gravel track and Jason drove yesterday the 4 hours from the border to our destination. It’s a bit of a journey but once you get here it is well worth the drive, and the surrounding peacefulness reminds me of the Knysna elephant park.

And our hire car, a Renault Duster made it!!

Swaziland, and especially where Marion lives is very beautiful , with the mountains and surrounding valley as a backdrop – we went for a drive round the farm on Saturday, and went up the highest mountain . At the farm They grow bananas, mangoes, paw paws and Macadamia + have a few oxen. They also have chickens , dogs and peacocks and it seems that the cockerel and the peacocks try and out- do each other in the mornings!

Douglas drove us up the path to the top of the mountain where there is a mobile phone mast – it was quite precarious! At the top it was quite cold and windy – apparently we had an unusually stormy day! Amazingly there was a guy up there in a sentry box so we got him to take a photo!

Once we got back to the farm there was a thunder storm, it rained and the wind blew a gale – South Africa also lost the Rugby!
Dani, Jason and I had our own 3 bed bungalow

We enjoyed our short stay of 2 days in Swaziland and visiting family – then Sunday morning we left to drive the 6 hours back to the airport at Johannesburg.
After a Nandos at the airport it was time to say goodbye to South Africa and board our plane back to the UK 😢😢

Joke of the day :
Q what do you call an elephant in a phone booth?
A Stuck!!
