Induction and elephant encounters

Up at 5.30 this morning for a 6.30 start -it’s lovely to get up early and encounter some zebras who wander around the park.

we had our induction where we learned about how the park was started in 1994. The first 2 elephants at the park were Harry and Sally – each of them have their own herds now at the park. There are 7 elephants in Sally’s herd – they are the tame ones. Harry’s herd do not have much human contact as there are some babies there who they hope to integrate into the wild. There are also 2 young males who are kept separate from the others as they will be moved to other sanctuaries and are not very friendly – one is called Clyde So I’m hoping I can get a picture with my Clyde in 🙂
We went out into the field today to interact with Sally’s herd. The first time we got to feed them and stroke some of them – the second time we observed them and tried to learn their names and how to identify who is who.
I think my favourite elephant so far is Keisha. They are all different and have very different characters.
We also got our team t-shirts today and tried out the Love Restaurant where you can get a good meal for the equivalent of about £2.50
Being here is amazing – the scenery is beautiful and it is so peaceful. Watching the elephants is an incredibly calming feeling and it would be easy to watch them all day, which is good as we will be doing a lot of that! Donna and I have a lie in – 8.30 start tomorrow !! I think lie ins are rare in the week.
I have signed up for swimming with seals on Sunday, and possibly will be doing horseback safari and walking with large cats on Saturday ☺️
