Well today we have started the real work with 2 x2 hour field observations of the elephants where we have to record their behaviours every 5 minutes. Itβs quite hard work as we are on our feet for 2 hours in the sun but it is lovely to be outdoors surrounded by the beautiful scenery and the elephants. The guides are out in the field also and it is interesting to talk to them as they have a lot of knowledge of the elephants. The elephants respect them and walk round them, but we have to move out of their way or else they may walk straight over us!
Today we have also learnt about the data input β and have made paper out of elephant poop! We also had training on how to take observations in the Boma which is the elephants night quarters β I will be doing 11/2 hours tomorrow evening and next week overnight!
So a full on day, I feel tired this evening but loving it π
Joke of the day:
Q: What does Tarzan say when he sees a herd of giraffes in the distance?
A: βHaha! You fooled me once with those disguises, but not this time!β
