on Friday morning we got up at 3.30am to be ready at the petrol station for 4.15am and our sunrise tour.
We waited and it was very dark and there was nobody else about. Eventually a truck pulled into the camp which was a tourist truck and our driver. It seemed there were only the 3 of us booked onto the tour!
we were given blankets to keep warm and set off . It was dark so had to use flashlights at first
It was really lovely watching the sun come up and we started to feel some of its warmth

then we just came across two male lions
just sitting in the road . One ran off to watch from the bushes , the other just stayed there, totally relaxed and not bothered by us- we were scarily close!
Not long after encountering the lions we stopped to look at some buffalo and then the truck wouldn’t start! The buffalo can be dangerous , but fortunately they started walking further into the bush. Some people in a Landrover stopped to see if they could help but the truck still wouldn’t start – others stopped to help and others thought we had stopped because we had seen an animal – only to be told ‘the car is broken’ the Landrover people and us all got out to push the truck to try and bump start it – it was funny, but also a bit scary given we had seen buffalo and Lions not long before!
eventually we realised it was a lost cause so the driver called in and got another truck sent out. We got in this and our driver kindly finished off our tour as planned ; we just got in an hour later
Another Joke…. You know you love them!
Q: What do you call a deer with no eyes?
A: No I deer
Q: What do you call a deer with no eyes and no legs?
A: Still no I deer

It’s amazing to get that close to the wildlife! The truck breaking down just added to the excitement 😉
